Leaves
obovate to oblanceolate; both sides dull or slightly glossy; the whole margin (or its apical 3/4) is crenate to dentate; adaxially slightly rugose to almost smooth; abaxially the epidermis is papillose, whitish or yellowish, with possibly some pointed solitary trichomes along midrib; 10-14 pairs of veins; petiole very short, mostly less than 0.5 cm;

acorns on axillary peduncles; cup conical, with triangular, loose scales having a pointed apex;

humid oaks forest, sometimes in mesophyllous forest mountains, and in mixed pines-oaks forests;
Additional Information
– Sub-genus Quercus, Section Quercus, Series Leucomexicanae; – Had always been considered as a synonym of Q.leiophylla (= Q. lancifolia ), but S. Valencia and A. Coombes 2019 place it at the rank of species, as Q. lancifolia differs in having lustrous leaves on both sides, the margin dentate only on the proximal part, and in being taller (20-27 m);
