– Sub-genus Quercus, section Lobatae, Series Erythromexicanae; – Threatened (IUCN Red List Category : EN). – Closely related to Q.salicifolia and Q.iltisii , from which it differs in having leaves glabrous beneath; before 2003 it was described under name Q.salicifolia;
