Leaves

1.2-3.5 x 1.2-3 cm ; evergreen; leathery; oblong-elliptic to suborbicular-ovate; apex obtuse to mucronate; base rounded or subcordate; margin sinuate, revolute, sometimes entire, but more often toothed; densely hairy at first; adaxially with fascicled and multiradiate hairs, becoming glabrescent; with solitary, fascicled and glandular simple hairs below; 4-7 vein pairs, impressed above, at an angle of 50-60° with midrib; petiole hairy, 3 mm long;

Flowers

June-July; flowers as soon as 2 or 3 year-old; male catkin 1-4 cm long, tomentose; female catkin very short, with 1 or 2 flowers;

Fruits

acorn 1 cm long, 0.8 cm in diameter; ovoid; singly or paired; cup sessile or short-stalked, flat, shallow, enclosing only the base of acorn, with lanceolate, grey brown tomentose, 1 mm long scales; maturing first year;
