10-16 cm x 4-5; oval-lanceolate; base attenuate; apex long acuminate; margin not undulate, with scattered teeth in upper 1/3; densely tomentose at first, becoming hairless adaxially; abaxially glabrous or with a persistent tomentum along midrib; slightly glaucous; midrib nearly flat above, prominent beneath; 9-14 pairs of secondary veins, at an angle of 60° from midrib; tertiary veins not visible; petiole tomentose 1-2 cm long;

males catkins appear after the female ones; female catkins 2.5 cm long, with yellowish tomentose rachis, bearing 5-6 tomentose flowers; 4 styles; stigmas thick, dark;

acorn subglobose 1.5-1.7 cm long x 1.2 cm wide, loosely pubescent, rounded at tip, 4 to 5 together on a slim rachis 7-8 cm long; basal scar convex; cupule halfround 1.5 cm in diameter, with 5-6 concentric rings of nearly entire scales, enclosing 1/2 of the nut; maturing in 2 years.

– Camus n° 5; – Sub-genus Cerris, section Cyclobalanopsis; – The yellow tomentum covering the whole young tree is a distinguishing feature; – Threatened (IUCN Red List Category : CR) – This taxon, often considered as synonym of Q. langbianensis, is today included by Binh & Ngoc 2018 in the “ Q. langbianensis Complex”
