12-14 x 4-9 cm; evergreen; elliptic, oboval or broadly lanceolate; apex obtuse or acute, sometimes emarginate; margin entire or sinuate dentate, with callous teeth; green and smooth above; brownish tomentose beneath; 10-12 vein pairs, red, impressed above, raised beneath; petiole 5-10 mm long, red, hairless;

male catkin 3 cm, rusty whoolly; anthers rounded, hairless;

acorn ovoid on a scaly peduncle, glabescent, 2-4 cm long; scaly, brown, tomentose cup covering 1/2 of nut;

– A. Camus : tome 2, p. 611, n° 230; – For today’s Mexican Authors (Susana Valencia-A., 2004), this species described by Trelease is not currently valid ; it may be a hybrid, or a morpholigical variety… For Zavala-Chavez, 2003, it is a variety of Q.obtusata . For POWO it is a true species.
