Growth Habit

Leaves
5.5-7 x 2-2.7 cm; subelliptic; apex rounded; base attenuate; margin entire slightly recurvate; young leaves densely covered on both faces with golden velutinous tomentum; mature leaves green and glabrous adaxially; glaucous beneath, with often golden hairs near base and on midrib; 6-8 pairs of secondary veins nearly flat above, prominent beneath, at an angle of 45° with midrib ; petiole 0.7-1 cm long, golden tomentose, then glabrescent;
Flowers
male catkin golden tomentose on all parts; female catkin 1-1.5 cm, wiht one flower; 4 elongated styles;
Fruits
acorn ovoid, mucronate, solitary; 1/2 enclosed by bowl-shaped cupule, 1-1.2 cm in diameter, outside golden tomentose, with 6 undulate rings; 1.5 cm long peduncle;
